Weblogs are abuzz* today with the the Google Suggest beta featuring javascript-powered auto-complete in the search box.
I’d like to float an obvious (I think) suggestion for Firefox. I would like to see the Google search bar that is built-in to Firefox have this Google Suggestion auto-complete functionality, but with a real XUL flydown (like the auto-complete for ULRs in the address bar).
Yup, abuzz is actually a word.

That is a great idea! I hope that someone from Firefox is listening and will get this into the nightlies soon. Also, support for it on the new Firefox start page would be nice as well.

Oooo.... So who's up for writing an extension?
Oh, and while I'm posting, who wants to write some XUL to be embedded in Spread Firefox? Yes, I would like SFX to be the first Firefox-aware, XUL supporting website on the web... But I have absolutely ZERO knowledge about how to pull it off. :)
Imagine managing your posts from the sidebar... downloading Firefox art in a shopping cart... Rating ANYTHING you see on the site! That's what I want... Who's up for it?
Chris
P.S. Thanks, Steven, for letting me have a call to action on your site. ;D

I'd love to see this as well - i hope the greatest XUL makers in the land(s) can have a stab at this very worthy project!

Unfortunately, there's no clear way to get the autocomplete list sorted alphabetically; either the suggestions come after the history (1st link) , or you need to have a separate Google Suggestions channel (2nd link.)
