After an interesting four months, I'm going to close off the Northern Exposure DVD petition at 1000 signatures. This should only take another day or two - so sign up now. After I close the petition, I'll post an overview of what happened and what will become of it.

I wish the 80's TV show Hunter would be released on DVD, but thats never gonna happen... Rick Hunter is the man, he kills all the bad guys in the end.
Stephen DesRoches - October 24, 2002 8:21 am
hmmm, do I feel another petition in the making?
Andrew - October 25, 2002 7:56 pm
Sure! I think a lot of hit shows would do go going on to the DVD medium... One I am waiting for is HBO's Six Feet Under.
Matthew Broszkowski - July 7, 2003 11:53 am
I will pay anything to get the entire series on dvd. This is the greatest show ever made.
Derrie Greyling - July 16, 2003 1:25 pm

Hyades Brummer - July 16, 2003 1:28 pm

Looking good for all those Nothern Exposure fans out there - Check out this article from USA Today (note: it's referenced all the way at the bottom, and has next to no information about the release - but it does say its on its way)

I don't watch much television, but there was one series that completely captivated me. Northern Exposure. It would be a tragedy if it weren't released onto DVD.
Matt Lewis - August 9, 2003 2:32 am
So it really sounds like Northern Exposure is coming on DVD !@@##@!@@!
I'm sooooo psyched to hear that. I can't wait to get my hands on every one. Hopefully they release a significant amount of them. What a show!!

WHEN I FIRST STARTED TO WATCH NX I WAS IN ISTANBUL AND I WAS CRAZY FOR THAT SHOW AND I WOULD LIKE TO MEET PEOPLE THAT LIKED IT AND DISCUSS IT. AFTER YEARS I FOUND OUT THAT THERE WERE A LOT OF FANS OF IT JUST LIKE ME WHO HAD THE SAME TAStE THAT I HAD.THAT PHILOSOPHICAL ,LIVELY, BITTER TASTE OF OUR LIVES.WE FOUND SOMETHING IN NX,SOMETHING WARM AND IT HAD A TEACHING IN ITS OWN WAY WITH OUT TRYING TO GIVE A LECTURE.WE ALL LIKED IT ,YESS..NX should be on dvd..or DOES IT REALY MATTER? who cares.IT MIGHT BECOME KINDA LIKE STAR TREK OR SOMETHING IN THE FUTURE MAYBE ,LETS JUST CONTINUE MAKING IT NX,PART 1200,THAT COULD BE COOL AS WELL OR JUST LET IT THERE WITH ITS MODEST 110 PARTS.THAT SOUNDS COOL TO ME AS WELL..WHATSOEVER NO BIG DEAL.LIFE IS FULL OF MYTHS LIKE NX ANYWAYS..THE GRATEFUL DEAD, JACK KEROUACK'S ON THE ROAD TRIP..J.KRISHNAMURTI..UG KRISHNAMURTI.(AT LEAST THEY HAD BECOME A MYTH FOR ME JUST LIKE NX AND I COULD COUNT MANY MORE,THE THING IS THEY ARE THE RAIN DROPS OF THAT BLIS THERE,WHY NOT DIVE IN THE VERY LAKE ITSELF INSTEAD OF HAVING THE RAIN DROPS OF BLISS IN OUR FACES)SO I COUL GO ON COUNTING. ALL OF OUR VERY MEMORICAL MYTHS IN OUR MINDS..DE TOUT FACON ,THE BIG BROTHER SAYS:CICELY IS A STATE OF MIND..SO WHO GIVES A FUCK IF THE DVDS ARE OUT THERE OR NOT..LETS JUST THROW NX TO THE ETERNAL WASTEBOX WHERE EVERYTHING SHUFFLES AND HOPE THAT IT MIGHT COME BACK ONE DAY THE SEA SHORE OF OUR MIND IN AS A MESSAGE IN ABOTTLE..AND UNTIL THEN LETS DIVE IN TO THE LIFE INSTEAD OF HOLDING TO THE BRANCHES OF THE CLIFF WE ARE ON,THE ONLY WAY TO SURVIVE ANYWAYS IS IF YOU LET GO OF OT,SO JUST LET THAT HAND THAT HOLDS ON TO THAT BRANCH THERE AND HUG THE LIFE WHILE YOU ARE FALLING DOWN,AND THE THING IS ITS NOT WHERE YOU GONNA FALL THAT COUNTS,IT S HOW YOU GONNA FALL ...SHIT THAT JUST SOUNDED LIKE CHRIS IN KBHR...CIAO TOUT LE MONDE...LAST NOTE:BODHIDARMHA ASKED TO BUDHA TO SHOW HIM WHAT ZEN IS,BUDHA POINTED AT THE MOON,BODHIDHRAMA SAID,"OH I GET WHAT ZEN IS NOW,IT IS THE MOON"...so,to make a final ,you guys have seen the show ,you know that the very thing spelled you wasnt the show it self ,it was the things that it was about,so what good it is to have the dvd in your library..the moon is out there ,TAKE A LOOK,it IS LIKE TAKING THE PICTURE OF THE MOON AND PUTTING IT ON YOUR WALL TO LOOK AND APPRECIATE HOW BEAUTIFUL IT IS BUT WHEN THE REAL MOON's JUST OUT THERE,ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS ,STICK YOUR HEAD OUT YOUR WINDOW AND THERE IT WILL BE HANGING CHILLED.. Yes, May 25th! I opened my e-mail account this morning to find a letter from Amazon saying it was available for pre-order! I was so excited I e-mailed my mother about it. lol. Finally! This makes my day. I'll have to start saving, so I can buy it (and the rest, whenever they come).
Nelson - February 18, 2004 10:19 am
YAY!!!
linda gangi - February 18, 2004 12:28 pm
Its official May 25th, Amazon has it for 41.99 on preorder. It made my day too!
Todd Shull - February 18, 2004 3:52 pm
I got the same email from Amazon this morning. I am so psyched, i just can't stand it! Alas, consumers make a difference. See what a little hard work can do. Thanks to whoever started this site. I'm sure it has made all the difference.

Because I live in Canada where the original version of NX is still aired daily on a digital station, I bought a digital recorder and now have excellent DVDs of all 110 episodes. I get 5 episodes (without commercials) on a disc so there are 22 discs in the set. For $299 US (including delivery to anywhere in North America), and at an average of less that $2.75 per episode, I can share this set with anyone who doesn't want to wait any longer, and who suspects that all 110 episodes will never be released commercially in any case. I would be happy to send out one disc for $20 to anyone who would like to have a preview first, (and then have the option of buying the rest of the set for $279).

art, your discs suck! give it up man! they are horrible quality. worse than a vcr tape.
art Pattison - April 16, 2004 5:45 pm
Tim,
The fact that, like Ted K, you are afraid to leave your real name and address, as well as the fact that I have never sent you a DVD of NX, shows that you don't know what you are talking about. The testimony of Albert Hard and Kevin Scorsone (seen in the Archives of July 2003) who have bought the material and speak highly of it, show you to be devious and malicious.
I can now sell a complete Economy version of the set in a spindle case of 22 discs (original version, without commercials) for $249, (or $226 per episode) delivered, though once the commercial episodes are released I will not compete with them (even though my price would still be lower).

Sally Owens - April 16, 2004 8:13 pm
I can attest to Tim's message. However, it is a bit overdone. I did receive a dvd from Art, which would not play on my player. It did play on my sisters. The picture was not good at all, sound was VERY low, and I never ordered anymore from Art. Which is good becasue I am getting mine from Amazon!!!
art Pattison - April 17, 2004 2:39 pm
Again, having never sent a disc to "Sally", and as she also does not leave an address, I conclude that this is another fraudulant post. I have improved my discs (since the early ones) and added an Index/Menu. I would be happy to replace "Sally's" disc or send one (free) from later in the series if she would like to identify herself, (though I suspect that will neve happen).

As you have probably heard, for another $40 or $50, Season 2 is going to be released this coming November 2, - another 7 episodes, hopefully with some more "extras". Meanwhile I am still offering the original unedited episodes on DVDs that have not been released at between $1.85 and $2.00 per episode, plus a small mailing cost (ie. if you are impatient to get Seasons 2 to 6 right away).

Art, are you still trying to pawn off those crap vcd's. I say vcd because the frame rate on arts vcds is extremely low. Probably lower than a vcr tape. Just wanted to warn everyone of arts exploitation of a wonderful show.
Erden Yeten - October 18, 2004 6:43 pm
Hi,
I would like to know if anyone would be interested to be a pen pal(e mail pal i mean)to discuss and evoluate the NX. I would be happy to talk to somebody about it since there is no one around me that knows the show.Or even if they know ,there are no people that i know who gets the thing out of it that i get.
So my e mail is erdeny@hotmail .com AND YESSSSSSSSS
i am very happy about the first season that has come out and cant get to wait to buy the second season in november. In fact it is a very sad fact that i am missing the sixth season right now since my cable is cut for not having paid my bills. Here in Canada ,Country canada is showing it twice a day .I have recorded maybe 18 episodes from the 5 th season but it really piss me of the fact that everynight at 10.00 pm the show is on but i cant watch it...what can you do ,the show is great but i prefer to buy my epicerie and have some food in my frige instead of paying 50bucks to the bloodsucking TV network..So i keep watching the first season and that 18 shows that i have recorded from tv....well,better than nothing of course....But i am digging as much as anyone here for the whole set coming out ...The dream is you go to an archambault and there they will be :NORTHERN EXPOSURE -season 1,2,3,4,5,6 and maybe even one day with an extra behind the set dvd...Hope is penidulum.
Cheers and joy to all....Salut :)
Erden.

As some of you will have noticed, as of June, 2005, Hallmark has now completely stopped airing our beloved "Northern Exposure". And as most of you know, as a service to loyal fans, I can offer high quality episodes of NX for less than $2 per episode, recorded digitally from a digital source in Canada. However. I will not be offering episodes which have been released commercially. This will include Season 3 after June 14, - though I could be persuaded to keep offering Season 2, since I can offer it with the original music, (unlike the commercially released version with its elevator music).

Northern Exposure and Maximum Bob. Two gret shows with short lives. I want them on DVD so I can enjoy them at leisure. With all the crap on now that would be every night.

BUYER BEWARE!
Don;t buy Arts crap dvd's. they are horrible quality, and illegal to boot. He should be ashamed, but I guess he doesn't care about laws of the land!
art - January 20, 2006 12:16 am
By popular demand, and since they are not forth coming commercially with original music, I am now offering any of the 6 Seasins of Northern Exposure for $45 (plus $10 for mailing), or Seasons 2 to 6 (inclusive) for $199 US$ (with Season 1 thrown in as a freebie if desired). Everyone who has ordered them (except Ted, - who hasn't seen them) are VERY happy with the quality.
NOTE: Ted's version of the episodes are not up to scratch since they have been made from old (analog) tapes, instead of being recorded digitally, directly from a digital source.
