ronnie martin is a genius

I’m following Matt’s example and I shall suggest a fine musical group.

Joy Electric is a fine example of analogue synth pop. It grows on you. I liked it because I spent many hours in front of a Game Boy enjoying the musical score to the Final Fantasy Legend series, and I believe that you just can’t beat a good square wave.

I just listened to an unreleased track of Ronnie’s (he’s the frontman, but sometimes he works with others) at mp3.com and suggest that you go take a look.

Monosynth and Parlor Inventor are my favorites.

  1. Dude. There is no doubting the genius or Ronnie… Kudos to this post!

    “Disco for a ride…”

  2. some video game funk:

OverClocked ReMix is a “website dedicated to reviving the videogame music of yesterday, and reinterpreting the videogame music of today.”

the minibosses have a cd of videogame covers. their version of castlevania is cool, but not as creepy as the original.

RISC, like the minibosses, does some nintendo covers too. mike tyson’s punch out rocks.

sage francis has a great hip hop song that samples from super mario bros. i think you can find it on napster if you look for super mario freestyle.

and atom and his package punks shit up synth style.

  3. Alrighty, we know Ronnie Martin is a genius, but why you gotta go comparing it to game buy music. Thats the shallow thing that most people see at first, but his vision is so much deeper. Joy electric is not just analog synth pop, its the best, most inventive in the genre. And its not just a sound track, its a story, told through poetry of sounds.
