sign of the coming apocalypse #112

Thanks to a fellow Rob (with whom I work) for pointing this out to me as an apocalyptic sign.

The Pope is releasing a spoken word CD. Good for him. Everybody has the right to express themselves. But, I’m mildly concerned by how he’s choosing to go about it.

In order to “get in touch with the young people” (I suppose), Britney Spears, *NSync, and Faith Hill will be backing him up on the CD.

Do they expect this will this make young Teenie Boppers put down their loud offensive ghetto blasters, body piercings, and premarital physical relationships and go to church? I’m not sure, they’ll try anything.

Somehow I don’t think the Pope really had anything to do with the presentation of his CD. I think it was probably whoever the Vatican hired to promote and distribute the CD. The good people and co-distributors at Compulsion Entertainment (entertaining compulsions is potentially sinful) might have something to do about that lineup.

  1. This will be the Pope’s fourth album.

CDnow rates his first album, 1999’s “Abba Pater”, as his best album to date.

His two follow-up albums, both released in 2000, “Papal Blessing” and “Pilgramage of Faith,” failed to live up to the promise of his first full-length.

The Pope does not appear on Lucille Pope’s album: “You Can’t Stop Me Satan.”

  2. Kelly Gruber! I know this has nothing to do with the impending apocolypse, but Kelly Gruber was my favourite Blue Jay when I was in elementry school.

In fact, I can remember the day I saw him at Exhibition Stadium in Toronto. They were playing the Mariners, and Kelly caught an amazing diving catch, his blond hair flying in the wind. I also witnessed George Bell catch a ball off the top of his head, supposedly losing it in the sun, allowing for 3 runs and the Mariners to win.

    Good times.

  3. Well. I can see Britney Spears singing on the Popes album. She could do a stunning version of ‘Like a Virgin’. There won’t be a dry eye in the church….
