I stole this from the Guardian's editorials. I'm not trying to be Mr. I-am-politically-active, but I found this to be very silly. I'll bold the part that made me laugh. And reference the good lines with numbers incase people want to discuss this afterwards. I don't know if this counts as a flame or nut. I feel nutty picking at each sentance, so I wont post my actual feelings about each number up here, except for 5 & 6. I laughed loudly at those. And #7 made cough and say 'bullshit' at the same time (like in Men in Tights).
Don't let pie tossers roam our streets
I am sitting here sipping upon my morning tea, and what do I see? Evan Brown - the man who, may I remind you, could have very well blinded Prime Minister Chretien by thrusting that whipped topping in the man's face1 -will be roaming around our streets again.
What message does this send to our children? Suppose little Patrick2 doesn't like what his teacher put on his report card, or young Jonathan3 doesn't want to wear the new sweater his father just bought him for Christmas. So what do they do, I ask? Why not lash out at their authority figures and cream them with a pie4? That is the message we have sent. Is this what we really want5? A generation of young, rebellious pie slingers?6
No, I am not saying that we should have thrown the book at him, or a pie at him (no pun intended7) but, hey, people, this is not civil. Pie tossing is wrong8 and Mr. Brown should have been ordered to issue a public apology to those he offended.9 Seriously, people, are you with me or against me? Who else wants an apology?
That's my two-cents worth. (name)

Rob Scott pointed out to me that my comment about #7 was flawed. It wasn't a pun to begin with, it was more of an expression. But I will stand by my comment of 'no pun intended' being 'bull' because he did in fact mean to make a pun, but failed because it was not a pun at all.

That's gold rob! Has anyone else noticed that an alarming number of the letters to the editor in the guardian are all written by the same small group of 3 or 4 people?
My favourite comment about the pie-in-the-face story is when people say <i>"What if the pie had razors in it!?"</i>. I can only presume that what these fools mean is <i>"What if he was stabbed?"</i> as I can't imagine why any assailant would choose a pie full of razors as their weapon.

That particular letter to the editor is actually a bit of a joke... It was sent by someone at my work in "retaliation" for a letter to Santa that was published last week..
It has become a bit of a war...
But dont tell anyone.. Its all a big secret... The Guardian people think its real... giggle giggle..

"Pie throwing is wrong" - what moral or legal code is that out of? Pie throwing into the face of a Prime Minister may be assault but it takes the PM being there to make it a crime.
Best bit - apparently the author thought E. Brown was doin' life.

I was writing my post when Dennis was posting his ... never mind...

I agree that the letter could have been better but I also agree with some of the sentiment:
1. His jail term should not have been reduced.
2. He should have to issue an apology.

Hi everyone,
In addition to kid_eh 's post, i can vouch that mr mcguire's post is legit, having spent a wonderful weekend with him and his family i can see where his true passion for humanity and lust for life lies, deep within the cockles of his warm, caring heart...once again, cheers mr mcguire and down with the pie throwers!

I feel I must defend Mr.McGuire, this letter seems totally legit! Really folks where do we draw the line?!? For heavens sake think of the children!! What example does this set? I, for one, live in fear of "A generation of young, rebellious pie slingers". Where does it stop? Melon tossers? Egg grenades?!? These produce crimes must end!!!

I can't help but think that someone is stealing my shtick.

I think they should give that guy who punched Brown in the face when he was in jail a medal. He was super!

I'm all for the use of rubber bullets and military grade tear gas. But if we allow people to throw pie plates full of cream, well, we're nothing better than a bunch of filthy fucking animals.
windom earle - December 20, 2001 12:45 am
i think brown and the prime minister should settle this over a game of dodgeball.
